Do you sell seeds from the farm or in an Ag store or hardware store or..or..or.. Do they /you have seeds of special interest? Got tomato seeds from Rena yesterday, they are russian. To read some of these names properly you got to pronounce like you were puking We have to change these names so we can pronounce them !! Maybe I can send you some and you can rename them Wonderboy to make him happy!! ;D I am not convinced he will ever know!! Your potential partner in crime, Michel

Talk to me about it... I tried to buy some stupidity quota, feeling it sure must be a good investment in such a world, but the politicians had already bought everything So, I guess we are condemned to be more intelligent than them, we will never meet Paris Hilton and George Dabiah

Off topic a bit, but could you tell us more about the quota thing? Are you really not allowed to sell your produce from your farm?

wow, I can't believe you can't butcher for your own use. Here, you aren't supposed to sell raw milk, and you are supposed to have an egg handler certificate, and you can't sell butchered meat to others, but you certainly can use your own. There are lots of folks who do sell rabbit meat, because they don't enforce the rules (so far). People get around the rules by such things as, selling you the container and 'giving' you the milk, or selling a live animal and showing you how to butcher, etc. It would be interesting to see all the differences in states/countries rules.

Blue do they enforce the law. I would have to kill my chickens and rabbits at night if i lived there. Now i am starting to feel sorry for Canadians. I cannot believe that you cannot feed your own family meat that you butchered and is a lot cleaner than any done in a slaughterhouse.

So ... in the wonderful world of Canada ... what about wild game? If you shoot, trap or otherwise harvest wild game, do you have to have a licensed butcher come along on the trek to field-dress and butcher the deer, moose or wild fowl?
Not being allowed to butcher your own livestock for your own consumption is a total crock of shit, IMO. Next thing you know, the bureaucrats will have some ignorant policy where a you'll have to have a special permit to enter home canned items into the county fair competition!

Holy freakin' crap!!! I can't believe what I'm reading... I guess I would go to jail because there is no way in hell I could abide by those insane laws!!! Not being able to field dress your own kill and clean the meat is beyond my comprehension... That is totally bogus!!! Where I come from you grow up learning to do those things... Hunting and fishing have always been sure fire ways of sustaining life for my family, and countless others, for generations... How in the hell can they enforce a law on you fending for yourself? Err!! I could go on about this but I guess I will bite my tongue... And as far as taking a Food Handling course for someone to enter homemade goods at the county fair.... Well, they haven't tasted my Grandmas Pecan Pie... 'Nuff said!

Are you sure about those hunting regulations? As far as I can tell on the MNR website, it's fine to field dress a deer or a moose. How else would you get a moose out? Those succers are so big. Not at all saying I agree with the farm regs being put in or applied, those are ridiculous.

Maybe there is no place on the planet that makes any sense. I know that there will never be a place that is perfect for everyone, but it just seems to me that things are really out of control just about everywhere. My husband and I were checking out some rabbit sites earlier and ran across a farm in AZ that was forced to sell out due to 'developers rights' versus water rights of the farmer who owned the land. I know that things are different in the west than in the east in America, but it is hard to understand how you can lose your land in such a way. We are going to lose some of our property to a highway widening, but to lose it to a developer would be harder to take, for me anyway. Sorry, pretty far off the topic of wonderboys......

That is crazy, all of it!
There is so much, excuse my language, bullshit going on in this world right now, I just wonder how much longer we are going to take it. I know that a lot of us have been taking a major stand by doing what we do for a living or for a hobby but I'm starting to feel we need to go even deeper.
Guess what the UN just did? They ruled that access to water was not a human right! What the hell! Water is life! Screw these assholes!
I just ordered two large culpepper flags to fly over the farm here at Bishop's Homegrown, I figure if I'm going to show I'm not afraid of the beaurocrats and if I'm going to make a point, I might as damn well be visable to my enemy! I'm just approaching the point that I don't care anymore to play by their rules and instead I'm going to start opening my mouth loud and clear and letting it fly! In other news I've been approached quite often recently about a career in politics here locally and I think I just may take them up on the offer as long as I don't have to declare a party! I'll shoot straight and be the farmer I am if I ever take it up!

What's happening is the haves are building bureacracies up to keep the have nots (usn's) from becoming haves. The only wonder about it is taht it has taken them so long to become visible. If you want an example of what it leads to, take a look at Peru, where close to 80% of the business is done on the black market, ie by unlicensed businesses. The reason? In order to get a business license, it takes 3 years, 8 hours a day standing in lines to get the pieces of paper required to get the pieces of paper required to get .... until you finally get the piece that says you are licensed to do what you have been doing all along. And that is what all this bureaucratic crap is all about. Keep those on top on top, and the rest of us down below. Should be in the soapbox section, but what the hey. Cheers Dan

Well, I guess I've missed something, guess I went to bed too early. I think it is very interesting to know what is going on all over. Seems the US govt is not alone in selling out to big business. Alan, I goggled Culpepper and read the history (I didn't pay much attention in school) very interesting. I think today we just too complacent, we don't even realize how many rights we don't have. I think the fact that Bush/Cheney is still in office and not prison is a sign that the American public is basically in a coma. And no, I am not singling out Republicans, I think that a two party system is ridiculous. I am not left or right, i couldn't even define what those are, really. I just think that the way our sytem is set up, we are doomed. I agree with Dan. The Haves are only going to have even more, and the people who are in the middle are going to struggle just to stay above water. Maybe when Alan is president he can fix it. We have a few years to wait though, that pesky rule about being 35 to serve. I wonder how old one has to be to serve as governor of Indiana?

Blue, I don't think anyone is offended, except at the gov't regulations, and the ridiculous bureaucracy that forces the small farmers out. I was just wondering about the hunting thing, and couldn't really find out on the MNR site, if you are/not allowed to field dress. And I honestly can't see the logic, especially with a moose, which can weigh up to 1500lbs. How on earth would a couple of people drag that sucker out by themselves, and haul it onto their pick up (or minivan?). But of course, the first part is probably why ----the logic. Asking gov't to be logical, and/or even fair is like asking my dog not to fart!
