Thanks to our friends at May Finn Farms Kim and I now own two goats! John and Fred, pygmies of some types, both are weathers and in good health. Not really sure what to do with them but keep them as pets and as composters on legs. We will be using them this summer to clean up the wild blackberries and multi-flora roses in the wooded areas we want to use for future ginseng patches.

Alan, goats can eat poison ivy if you have it. And mine love briars and thistle. The may also eat any low tree branch they can reach. Just make sure not to give them any wild cherry, it's poisonous. You & Kim are going to love having them as pets. Goats are very entertaining

I had heard goats ate poison ivy before, but I was wondering... does all the urushiol get digested, or could handling the goat droppings cause a rash? Not that I go around carrying goat poop, but I often work the compost and stuff without gloves. I was considering borrowing a goat to do some brush clearing for me.

I don't know if the oil survives the digestive tract, but I wouldn't be surprised. It can stay on objects a very long time. Alan, the goats will be great for clearing up briars, as they prefer that kind of stuff.
