Anybody here ever hatch eggs with an incubator? I am seriously looking into buying a nicer and more accurate model than what I'm currently using and was looking for some advice. I'm considering the digital R-Com 20. Room for 20 eggs and very precise, could easily keep my flock growing and also hatch chicks for sale or hatch others local eggs. Sounds like fun to me.

Have you thought about building your own incubator?

What I use is the same old incubator that we have had for probably 15 years. We used to raise quail and kept one of the incubators 'just in case'. It is the styrofoam with the clear plastic top. Automatic turner, don't remember the capacity just now, have trays for both quail and chicken eggs. I personally don't think that 20 is near enough. You can hold your eggs for a few days before you have to set them, and it sounds like you will have enough hens to fill up that incubator in one day. Easier to set more at once. They sell the kind we have at just about any farm store, I know Rural King has them but I don't remember the price. There is a company we used in Georgia, Georgia Quail Farm that sells bigger stuff. Worth looking into if you are going to be raising them on a larger scale.
