My Potbelly pig Herman has been depressed since July, when his GF Pepper passed away. He has been acting totally out of character. He has busted out more times in the past 2 mos. , than in the 7 yrs I have had him. Last week he wandered off and he was found 5 mi away. I really did not want another pig. He is 12. But I decided that I would get another female after the New Year. Less hectic for all involved. I am already pre-approved with the Potbelly Pig Network for adoption. But they are basically located in NJ and Pa. 6 hrs each way. So I decided to look around online yesterday, see if there were any around my area. Sometimes they turn up at a Humane Society. I found a spayed one an hr from here near Lake Saratoga. Her name is Poppy and she will be 4 in June. Shy but sweet.

Here is Herman. He is thrilled. They have both been grunting and chatting.

I keep telling the kids that if I get some property in CA, I will get a potbelly... I think they're so cool. I was unaware that there was an adoption network. I'll have to check into that when we move. Great pics, FP!

Herman is Happy which means you'll be able to chat again without disappearing into the night to chase him down the road A Good Thing!!! Ooooooooooooooo, Poppy is sooo adorable. Give her a little squeeze for me.

LG, I got pig connections, if you ever want a PBP.
We can only hope Herman will stay home now. He seems very happy and so does Poppy.

Are your pigs outside only PBPs? I know a lot of PBP owners let them in the house, but I don't think I'd do that. What do you think, FP? Do they need to go inside?

Poppy looks very sweet. She doesn't look too shy, either; at least she seems to love the camera from looking at her pics. Any rate, I'm glad that you found a girl for your Herman.

I know, that pic of Poppy looking upwards to the camera lens just cracks me up!! Maybe someday I will get to meet her.

I keep telling the kids ... I will get a potbelly... If I told my kids that, they'd say, "But, Dad, you already have one!"

Out of the mouth of Babes. Oh wait, Babe was a pig too Sandbar, if you can't have chickens where you live, then I think the boys should have Pet Piggies.

LG, the first pig I got is a House Piggy. Precious just turned 9. I would not suggest keeping one in the house. It is too much trouble-child-proofing the cabinets, lock of the fridge door, no houseplants on the floor. But she is completely housetrained and that only took 1 day. So Herman & Poppy met briefly yesterday. It went well. She is a little intimidated still. But she was waiting for me last night at the door. And she was looking for petting and cookies afterwards. Seems to really like Pig Newtons.

Thanks for the info FP. The cabinet and pantry issue was a big one for me, since I think I could end up with an animal brawl on my hands once the pig figured out that the dogs were hanging back and waiting for her to liberate the food, just so they could steal it from her! Plus, I know some folks have piggy litter boxes, but I don't do litter boxes. (Although right now our older cat is on house rest, after being hit by a car, so I'm suffering with one. Can't wait til THAT'S over!)
By the way - I was cruising around on the web, looking at the pig adoption sites, and I saw Poppy! That looks like a good adoption network.

Potbelly Pig Network is a good organization. They even try to retrain some of the pigs so they are more adoptable. I lucked out with Poppy, she is a sweetie. But the one that passed was a handful. She had been kicked and stepped on, at the very least. She sat a the Sanctuary for 8 yrs as she was unadoptable. Very bitey. But her behaviour improved over time. But she drew blood on me more than once.
LG, sorry to hear about your kitty. I hope its doing better.
