I hatched my first chick today and have others pipping. I wish they'd hurry as the initial hatch is lonely and chirping endlessly. I'm very excited, though as my previous and first attempt at a hatch was a bit of a disaster and I think, a chick genocide in a few cases. It's amazing how much work these animals put into being born. I've never been in labor but it seems somewhat like that in reverse. At any rate, I'm very pleased with my first chick.

Well it's about time  WooooooooooooooooooooHooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!! House, have you named it yet?? Any other pipping yet? Sometimes it takes a day or two...Remember, I told you, wait for 48 hours after the first hatch just to be on the safe side. I'm very proud of you.. And if it's any consolation, I'm having a terrible year for hatching and I've been at it a long time, so don't sweat the first one... Think Happy Chickie Thoughts!!! from here on through. |

There are 5 more pipping but not accelerating towards hatching like the first. This one pipped and hatched in a couple of hours. Very ambitious. Hopefully, it's a hen. We named it Chuck, though, because it's his b-day. That may change to Charlene? Thanks for the encouragement!!!

Chuck is Portuguese and German and his namesake is Barred Rock and Black Australorpe or however you spell it.
All of the 6 that hatched are fine. Thanks for asking.
