If you do your own Vet work please take note.
I was picking up some supplies today at our local veterinary supply house and I asked for a bottle of injectable Iron.
They didn't have it and he explained the only generic drug manufactory in the US has shut down for retooling, it could be six months or more before the plant reopens. I suggest you stock up on any needed supplies or at least check the availability of items you use often. Acording to my supplier there will be many generic drugs in very short supply.

CFF,
It's possible that the same thing is happening in the U.S. that has happened here in recent years. There is a move afoot by Veterinarian professionals to restrict what is accessible to the DIYers. Solutions that once were found on feedstore shelves are now "out of stock" at supply houses and seem never to return from backorder status. Yet they are readily available should you make an appointment with the vet.
I see it this way. Veterinarians were obviously losing money because some of us can and do know how to give basic vaccs and deworm our animals. But there is a downside to DIY drugs too as I'm sure we all realize. It's the fact that pharmaceuticals can (and do) fall into the wrong hands; illegal drug trade or persons that haven't enough knowledge to be using them properly. And there will always be those that killed their family pet "with kindness" and then try to launch a lawsuit against the pharmaceutical company that manufactured the drug that did the dirty deed, or the outlet/vets office that sold the drug to the end user, even though the pet owner overdosed or misdiagnosed to begin with. A no win situation at best.

Great, now I have to stock meds for the pigs. In their case, I have to be my own Vet. No animal dr in this area will even look at them. Lg animal vets say Potbellies are pets. Small animal vets say they are livestock. I couldn't get anyone when my pig got sick. And she did die. I still have no clue what it was. If I had to guess, I would say cancer. I could have found that out with a simple blood test, couldn't get anyone to take one.

Sounds like greed soaking in. Vets being creative about how to make more money. I guess people being lawsuit happy doesn't help either.

Pigs are so closely related to humans that most of the same meds we take should be ok for them. It might be easier to get "human" medicine if you know a doctor.

Even though my old vet (who retires) wasn't thrilled about the pigs, he would have come here. His replacement is a jerk- he actually yelled at me on the phone. Said my 15 yr old PBP was "expendable".

You don't need Viagra, Cialis or Xanax do you? I get emails about those every day!
