So I thought of using them for cider and maybe fermented cider also ?.... . . . . . . . 10 gallons of very thick cider from one Tree....... who da thought......Haaaaaaaa . .

The only hard part of this DIY was Sawing the bottom of the off the 11.4 liter soup pot !........... It has an enamel finish ? and was tuff as nails....... I bought it 6 year ago as a woodstove hotwater pot.. But it developed a leak.... So it got a new life in a cider press Here`s a link to the video where I got the idea from . . www.youtube.com/watch?v=KM3D5OzDXOw

Excellent!
Ground and pressed four gallons of cider on Halloween, 1999. Fermented it and still have almost a gallon left. Tastes great.

I showed the pics to my BF yesterday. He thought it was pretty inventive & that it would be no problem to make one. There are alot of wild apples around here. They make some awesome applesauce, so the cider should be excellent. And what's the worst that can happen? It will turn hard or turn to vinegar. We'd make hard cider form it anyway. It's no problem either way.

excellent idea massachussett! many moons ago, hubby set up something similar to that to press apples. i chopped them up in a blender, then put the mash in a pillow, then we squeezed with a jack like yours. i like the soup pot and the pipe to drain. a lot easier! i put the juice in glass bottles, and a few days later, two exploded in the fridge! ;D
