No bees flying here today. -7ºF this morning. Haven't seen our local beekeeper this month so I don't know how his 25 hives have been handling all of this early cold. Last winter, he didn't have to start feeding until well into January. The year before, half of his swarms were dead by now.

Summers can be hell in the south but man we have really good winters - mild temps are the norm. It had to be at least 60+ degrees here today - I didn't feed anything this fall, last year our warm winter and fall feeding caused some problems but I do have some hives now that are running low on stores so I guess its time to set out the feeders No bees flying here today. -7ºF this morning. Warm and rainy here. It's still 67* well after sundown. Very weird, because it was 10* just a few days ago. But that's the weather for ya'...
Really nice pics of your bees, cff. All that hybernating makes 'em hungry!

The past few years we've had really warm winters mixed with only a hand full of really cold days and blistering hot summers - weird is a good word for it Johno.

Yep, we have had single digits already this winter, granted for a day or two only, but right now it is 67. Muddy as all get out. We have a kind of fake ski slope here in Paoli, Paoli Peaks, they only got opened last week, with not much 'snow', but they are out there skiing anyway. Pretty sure you shouldn't have to worry about getting your snowsuit muddy.....

With an average snowfall of about 1/2" a year - I don't even know anyone who owns a snow suit

We had two injuries from the "peaks" lastnight in the ER.
69* here today, and yes, the mud is ridiculous.

Peapod" Beekeeping is E-Z ......... The bees do all the work There are large numbers of books CD's and DVD's on beekeeping, try to start with two hives and you'll find it easy to learn as you go.
