Has anyone used this product?
It was recommended by a friend who lives in our area. It's a "natural" (I always question that appellation) product with spearmint and lemongrass. It's supposedly used in a number of ways. Spring feeding, encouraging them into boxes, encouraging a landing spot for a swarm... probably more things than I am aware of since Mike is the beekeeper and not me.
Anyway, we have a swarm going on in our crepe myrtle at the moment. I've prepared a 3:1 water/sugar syrup with 1 t. of the H-B-H. Mike has sprayed it on the "walls" of the box he wants the bees to inhabit. I'm interested to see how well this works on this application.
We got the stuff from "Miller Bee". Called on the phone and placed the order. It arrived the next day!?!?! That's prolly cause they are here in North Carolina as well.
Anyhow, we got it because our bees have been somewhat vicious this spring and with our gardens right in front of the hives our issues were escalating. Our friend told us that his bees calm right down when he has used the stuff.
Upon arrival I made a gallon of 1:1 syrup and added the recommended 2 T. of H-B-H to the cooled syrup. Mike then used it as a feed. Indeed, the bees calmed right down and we have been working all around them. I noticed this best yesterday as I weeded an area about 20' to the side of one of the hives.
Mike has just come in and he says they went into the frame very easily and that they are much friendlier than before.
