I know I dropped off the face of the earth but I was focusing on growing, developing a Tri-State Beekeeping Forum to cover the loss of our local bee inspector, and getting ready for our new daughter that is now a mere two weeks old! Well, so far this has been a pretty good year for my bees. I am up to 25 colonies. 18 of them nice and strong and 7 are building up from caught swarms. I have developed 4 out yards and 2 main yards. One of my main yards is 8 colonies set up on 4-way migratory pallets so I can move them into and out of clover and alf-alf field which is in the flood plain. Its rare that it floods, but I want to be able to move them when I need to. They are the newer screen bottom board designs which I think will work well. I have harvested about 12 gallons of Black Locust Honey and about 4 gallons of what I calling Spring Honey and is a mix of Black Locust and late spring wildflower. Right now I am collecting Alf-alfa and Clover and lots of wildflower. The flow is good right now because we keep getting lots of heat and LOTS of moisture. First good ripe tomatoes happened earlier this week. More later.
