Anybody here have any experience with Russians?
I have two hives arriving in a few months and can't wait to get rolling with them. I don't expect them to be as gentle as the more standard Italians or Buckfasts.
Anybody have any experience with them? Good? Bad? Otherwise?

CFF, I love it when you post pictures of you and your various beasties. You truly look like a person who enjoys his life and livelihood. It's inspiring. Thanks.

I agree house, CFF always looks so at home and happy with all the things he posts pictures of, truly a man of passion and knowledge and folks definetly couldn't ask for a better friend than this guy.
I really like that picture above it truly shows just how gentle the Russians can be and after having talked to CFF about bees a few times and getting some suggestions I decided that indeed those where what I would be going after this year to pollinate the crops here.

Cool. Good to hear.
Everyone around here could only offer me dire warnings about the Russians, but I'd had good experiences in the past with supposedly "unruly" varieties, and they seemed like they come with some good characteristics.

I heard all the warnings from my area beekeepers too that the Russians would swarm themselves to death / mean as Africanized bees / never make a real honey crop .............. bla bla bla. I will agree that some breeds of Russians will not be as good as others but the same is true of any race of bee. If you don't like the ones you've ordered after you get them I'll be glad to help you re-queen them into a nicer breed of Russians. Cool. Good to hear. Have you heard of Long Creek Apiaries in Tennessee? That is where they are coming from.

Yes, yes, more pictures pleaaaaassssseeee!! Be careful people, this Hayne guy is contagious!! I had a desire for beekeeping once, by posting here on the topic he re-kindled it. Now, I will have a couple this year and more later... These pictures are addictive hey folks? I think, Hayne, that beekeeping is such a natural extension of our passion for growing, and that the crowd here is so knowledgeable, passionate and naturally curious, that you will soon end up being the ''beekeeping daddy '' of a lot of us... ;D As long as your new kids don't behave like spoiled teenagers, you should be OK We love you DAD !!! ( can you spare a $20?) Michel
