I'm half past dead here. The over the counter meds are making me loopy and keeping me up at night. I can't breath through my nose. Help........................

My daughter swears by this:
Boil water put in fresh lemon juice and honey, then put a shot or two of rum in the glass. She goes to sleep easily and then wakes up congestion free every time.
Hot toddies work like a charm.

Vitamin C is a natural antihistamine. When I've got a whopper of a cold, I take 2,000mg two to three times a day. Vitamin C is water soluble so whatever your body doesn't need get flushed out. I regularly take about 1,000mg a day throughout the winter because I am a school principal and there's a snottin' hackin' student around me on a regular basis ...

Ok, i've got a question. What is going to get all this friggin' congestion out of my chest that wont go away. Every time I cough some of it up it sounds like I've got a hair ball!

About 14 days will take care of it, once when I was a kid I had a really bad cold and ol dad went to the drug store and picked up about $20.00 dollars worth of cold meds for me. I felt awful for about two weeks and then I was fine.
When I was 13 I had full blown case of the flu and just suffered through it without any of the meds, I felt awful and in about 14 days I was fine.
Hope you feel better soon

Unless it turns into pneumonia ... have you been to a doctor?
When I had a light case of pneumonia (as a result of shoveling snow like a mad man in sub-freezing weather), the doc prescribed an expectorant that have me bizarre hallucinations. Dumped that junk down the drain and got Robitussin D. Didn't work quite as well, but at least I could sleep without nightmares.
I know you probably hate docs as much as I do, but maybe a trip to see one would be a good idea?

will do, i've been hitting the Ginseng, yellow root, green tea extract and Echanacia pretty hard, along with the cough syrup and some mucinex. I'm starting to feel a little better luckily, maybe this is almost over now!

My grandfather swore by this. He would get a quart of scotch a bag of hard rock candy and a cup of honey. He would make toddies and drink the whole bottle of scotch and after he awoke with a hangover he said the cold did not last after going thru working with a hangover lol.

The Italians in the neighbourhood where I grew up, drank hot homemade red wine to get rid of a cold. Heat is supposed to kill alcohol and nutrients, is it not? So why do you figure this works???

sounds good to me blue! ) i hope you're all feeling better now. one thing we do to help with the plugged up nose is snort horseradish! actually, you grind the horseradish up with a little vinegar and you inhale the fumes one nostril at a time. helps with sinusitus too. )

I've just gotten over a cold also. Right now my left ear is plugged. It has been plugged for a few days now. It was plugged and unplugged for a couple of weeks but this time it hasn't popped. Does anyone have any ideas what could be up or what might make it better?
