I'm getting pretty anxious to go bass fishing again! I just gotta find the time this summer in between all the work! At least I actually have free bait on hand for myself this year. The other day Kim and I were coming back from bunton's seeds (about 3 weeks ago) It had just snowed a few weeks before and along the highway there was a little pond that was frozen, it was only 27 degrees at the time, there were three guys sitting out there all bundled up in lawn chairs on the ice and they were fishing! It's the first time I had ever really seen anyone ice fishing in Indiana. I guess Winter=boredom.

That remind me of something that happen around ten year or so. We had a usually cold winter and Reelfoot Lake froze so solidly that people were driving cars on the ice.I have never even seen anyone walk on that lake muxh less drive on it lol. They claim that there were fish frozen in the ice and there were people chopping the ice to get to them lol. This is very usually for this area as we dont have much winter here maybe one snow and a few flurries.

Wow, that's crazy I don't think I'd have the fortitude to drive on a frozen lake no matter how frozen it was. I watched a thing on the history chanell not to long ago about truck drivers with routes that crossed giant frozen lakes in Alaska, often they could only do it in the spring due to there being less snow, the downside was that the ice was melting at the same time, apparently there have been several trucks break through the ice over the years too! I couldn't even imagine that job. I'll take the hot sun and hard ground anyday over that!

Alan, we can always go over to Kevin's during the evenings, there's a security light right by the pond, certainly wouldn't be the first time I've fished in that pond after dark.
I think if I came upon a lake that was frozen so solid that fish were frozen in it, I would go out there and try to chip them out to...Aint nothin' wrong with 'em if they're frozen.lol! No reason to let it go to waste. Thats a really neat story downinmyback!

Am I the only one who likes trout? It seems to be the case here, but maybe that's because we're overrun with them?..
Walleye - that's my favorite lakefish.
I don't fish very often anymore, but we have more fish in this area than you can shake a stick at. We have two river-fed lakes, multiple rivers - even a natural river, the Buffalo - and numerous streams and ponds. Fishermen come here from all over the world for tournaments or just R&R...

Hey johno, we love trout fishing in our favorite Lake (Lake Del Valle) and we might go this weekend (if it is not too windy), LOL.
We also fish for "striped bass", "black bass", "sturgeon", "halibut" and "catfish". We, mostly take our boat, but we also go on party boats when we want to go deep sea fishing, LOL.

I fish. And I too am a trout bum, at least I was, fly fishing all over California, mostly Sierras. I still make a point to hit Caples Lake each year. I also do a fair amount of inshore salt fishing each year in Humboldt County, mostly for rock cod and lingcod. I did work for several years in a tackle shop, years (decades?) ago and used to really be dialed on Northern California fishing.

Crappie are running now!
Hey, DownInMyBack, make a deal with you. You take me for crappie on Reelfoot (let's not share _that_ secret, though), and I'll take you out for bluegill on Wilgreen.
Ah, you say, who needs bluegill? Well, Wilgreen is the preeminent bluegill fishery in Kentucky, and the fish average 7-8 inches.
Waddayasay?

I Went Crappie fishing today for the first time this year. . My buddy called me last nite and wanted to go so we got up before dawn and was fishing at daybreak. It was nice and cool with a wind blowing for most of the morning and the fish were biting early. I ended up catching 7 slab crappie and my buddy caught 8 so we came away very happy with our first trip. Everything went smooth and we thought we had jinxed our self because nothing went wrong lol.

I hadn't been fishing for prolly 15 years until last month. The gov't has ran a promotion "Family Fishing Weekend" the past few years where for 3 days, anyone can go fishing without a licence. Must follow catch regulations and boating regulations but it's a fun way to try fishing if you've never done it, or try to live up to the fish stories of years gone by.
We went down to the private lake across the road (neighbour allows us access) and spent the afternoon casting for anything that would strike. DH caught a small pike and a green bass. Both were too small for eating IMO, so catch and release it was. Me on the other Hand?? I caught every variety of freshwater aquatic weed in the lake..I'm ashamed to say, I never thought at the time, to bring them home for mulch. DUH.
It was a fun afternoon and the province has announced an ice fishing weekend in February 2008 along the same lines....I wish Walter Matthau were still around to give pointers, LOL

I was able to go Crappie fishing Sunday and had a good trip. The fish were not biting as good as my last trip but i still had fun. The wind was slapping the boat and spooking the fish but it felt good just to get out on the water again.
