We have a tradition in my birthtown, about 45 minutes west from here, called Turkey Trot. They drop a turkey from an airplane over this small town one weekend each October, and the fleet-footed run over each other in a stampede to catch it. I took part once, just for the experience. Anyway, it's this weekend. They try to keep a low profile ever since PETA members from across the country invaded one year to protest. (I assure you, turkeys can fly!) So, I found it noteworthy that there's actually a photo of the drop in today's paper. I remember seeing this advertised in one of the states tourism emails. Except I'm confused about the Beauty Pageant portion? Why is there a Miss Turkey Trot AND a Miss Drumstick?? Is one strictly a Leg portion contest and the other the Full View??
It's definitely an interesting theme. I'd love to have the opportunity to attend it some day. Good thing they discontinued the Frozen drop...never mind the dent in the man's car. Frozen turkeys being dropped from a plane could have killed someone!!!

Are they using regular barnyard turkeys or the wild ones?

Hmmm... looks like the photo got replaced with an ad.
I think they use wild turkeys, cuz they fly better.
I don't recall what the difference is between the beauty contests, but it sounds like you've got it figured out.
