The violet family is dispersing its seed now, this is a seed that can be collected even in urban settings. Push the foliage aside and look for seed pods that are standing straight up. Collect those. Place in a jar of cup with screen on the top (or at least a napkin) seed erupts like gun fire.

Tom, wished I'd known this when my elderly neighbours were still alive and offered me Violas. She sent me home with a few spindly plantlings...None survived..But thanks for the info. It may come in handy some other time and place
