Unfortunately today I recieved the new and final newsletter from the AHSC. It appears that due to inactivity on the part of members that the AHSC will be no more sadly. Such a good bunch of people doing good things, I hate to see them go when we need them so much, but alas, that is the way things go sometimes.
I really hope blueflint who I haven't seen online lately will stick around and post here, we would love to have you blueflint and I consider you a great friend.
I also hope Brook will occassionally come in and post after he gets back in the game from a much deserved break.
I will leave this message up for a couple of weeks and then I will probably switch this forum over to Appalachian Heirloom Preservation and Distribution which will be a source for information and seeds which I have been collecting from Clay County and surrounding counties in KY for the past few years.

This deeply saddens me. Mary and I have met many good friends thru the AHSC and I hope we can all stay in touch. With the lack of inactivity of the membership, I was afraid this would happen. Like Brook, I figured that "next year" would turn around.
Alan, yes please keep some sort of Appalachian Preservation topic available...this is dear to the hearts of many.
I know we will still be here, visiting, reading and contributing...lately we just have been busy planting and transplanting in the greenhouse and the construction of a new greenhouse.
Brook, please stay with us, you have an immense knowledge of the topic which we all can draw from.

I withdrew from the AHSC for financial reasons and was hoping when things got better, to be able to take a more active interest in it. Even to the point of actually attending a conference sometime.... Guess it wasn't to be. I can't say I'm surprised at this after the lack of interest shown in the 2007 conference, but Yes, I too would like to see Brook return to posting here!!! And I am very much still interested in the work that was done by the AHSC.

This is truly a tragedy. I saw Brook form it back when I had a yahoo group calkled RuralKYIn.
I am locked into the city for the next handful of years as I work 1 hour in the opposite direction from where I want to buy land. Alas, that prevented me from participation while I prepare.
With the weirdness happening at SSE, the smaller heirloom conservancies are more important than ever. These efforts require tremendous effort and those doing it are unsung heroes. I am truly sorry to see this happen. At the very least, I would hope the efforts are not lot and the heirlooms are at the very least, perpetuated by the former members. At best, we can all hope for a resurgence if Brook ever decides to wade back in.
Brook, my hat is off to you. As others have stated here, I hope you are still able to participate and further the cause. We all owe and extend a great many thanks for your efforts.
