Greetings from South-west B.C.!
Have been lurking on this forum since the beginning of the New Year when, by chance, providence, Lady Luck etc. happened on this forum, while looking for dedicated seed saver forums.
Forty years as a homestead style gardener(you know the type. Left the city as a teenager, to 'go back to the land'. Got there. Never left.
Been seed-saving( breeding?)plants ever since then. That doesn't make me an expert. More like, the more you know, the more you know, you don't know.
Love the topics especially the photos of people's plants. Appreciate the input. Hope to add to the input.
Here in the Canadian Pacific South-west, we are currently experiencing one of the mildest winters, remembered. At least by this poster. In gardening terms, this means, a person can be be outside all day. Getting ready for this years gardening, in practical terms.
P.S. I gardened twenty years in the West Kootenays and have an appreciation of both the pluses and minuses of that growing zone, compared to where I live now. It's the jungle here!
Everything wants to eat, everything you want to eat!

Welcome Seedy!
There are a few members from Canada and even B.C. I do hope Grungy (Val) is back soon. She is off fighting cancer, but her husband Grunt (Dan) posts as much as he can. They are north of Idaho.
Now, can I interest you in some seeds? If there is anything on my trade list you'd like, just ask.

Hey another Canuck! Welcome!
We were also having a very mild winter in Atlantic Quebec, until yesterday. lol Got almost 2 ft of snow. But we needed it because the ground was bare and had no protection.

Seedy, Welcome from the Creston Valley. My lists aren't up yet, but will shortly appear = beans, peas, squash, and tomatoes. Check out the blog site, and the albums and lists addresses posted there, and these albums www.picasaweb.google.com/danvaltrial . If you see anything in the albums you like, let us know. Sounds like you're in the Frazer Valley, of on the island. Cheers Dan

Thanks all for the warm welcome. Have a great gardening season yourselves in 2010!
That's a fine collection of beans in your photo album, grungy. Have a bit of a collection myself but not many of your varieties.
My little farm is located on the Upper Sunshine Coast. On the B.C. mainland, about 100 km north of Vancouver. However due to several deep inlets, the area is surrounded by water on three sides.
To drive the 100 km takes approx. 5hours with two ferry rides. Think mini-Alaskan cruise:)
Previous farm was located in Glade, accessible only by river ferry from Thrums, between Nelson and Castlegar. Visited Creston from time to time, mostly to buy piglets.
