Hi all, Doe anyone out there have any seed for the De Djerba carrot to spare? I know I can order it for Kokopelli, but to be honest I'm no longer sure I can find 15 euros worth of addional seed to make up an order to them, plus I've been having a little trouble actually getting orders through to them the last couple of times. Anyone with any info on said carrot is also welcome to post, as I know little about it beyond the fact that it appears to be the closest thing to the real turkish black carrots as I seem to be able to find listed anywhere.

This summer, I will be growing many similar carrots. De djerba is an aisan carrot, purples are strong there, and although I have not grown them luckily, I hava many accesios fron Grin, which will be grown next summer.
If you want my breeder's insight, these carrotsare landraces in the widest term, meaning they are a bit like the native corns, where people would trade seeds and add them to their pool, not bothering purity but enjoying biodiversity before the word was created...
I have one accession from GRIN that gives me 6 colors, inclusing pink. To be frank, it means it is just a mixed up genepool. When you read landrace, read....whatever.
I'll grow many this year, and will gladly share results next year. Just one thing: purple carrots from Asia are mostly annuals, not biennials.
All eastern purple carrots except the modern breds are of this natural trait, as far as I know.
You can create your own ''almost identical'' version of this carrot by breeding.
Talk to me in the fall... Meanwhile, if you want to have fun, get the black spanish carrot, also calles '''morado''. All purple and oh! So tasty...

In England, I am tired now, it is 6 o'clock in the morning, but anyway I have seeds of it. They call it '''MORADO'' or ''BLACK SPANISH''
Today, I was on SKYPE with one of my french friends, and MIchel thanked me for them, saying how tasty they were. Send me a pm with your adress...got seeds for you.
Michel

Michael, if you have enough, I would like a few of of the Morado zanaorhias (carrots in Spanish ). PM on it's way in a few. Um, is this a perennial or annual? If it's perennial, I'll plant a number of them "aside" specifically to increase seed. Guess I could do that if it's annual as well though huh?

That is where «I got it. Had to send the money first...but otherwise i love that company. tHEY SHIP TO CANADA. mORADO HAS A WHITE CORE, BUT VERY THIN...and then, by way of consequence, a white tip. But when you cook it, the interior slim white core gets pretty stained and looks dark anyway...
