The other post talking about people stealing plants and fruit got me to thinking of a funny story that happened to me once. Thought I would share it and then we could all tell our stories.
When I was about 15, living at home with mom/dad, I saw someone in our front yard grabbing Granny Smith-type fallen apples as fast as she could. I decided to go out and tell her to please take all she wanted, because we had an even larger similar tree in the backyard and could not possibly use all the fruit.
Well I guess she thought I was going out to tell her to bug off and not steal, and she took off running really fast. lol She could have had a lot more apples!
This past summer, and out of the blue, there's a knock on the door from total strangers and they wanted to know about all the different flowers I had growing out front. They pointed at this or that plant and wanted to know the name, and I was able to provide. They were happy to finally get names to mystery plants they had growing at home, and had fun taking pictures. That was an experience. But always very nice to meet new people who are interested in gardening.
Last story. A few years back, before our local plant nursery closed, I was there in the fall to take advantage of half-off/end-of-season sales on Daylilies. Was discussing which ones to get with my hubby when a man practically ran over and said, "Do you want any Iris?" Hubby and I looked at each other like "huh?" And the man said he had so many at home and did not know what to do with them, and would I like some? Sure!
Well when he brought them over the next day, most of them were half rotten! LOL I did not tell him that though! I was able to save about 1/4 a plastic grocery sack of little ones, and they took 4 years to finally bloom.
