I've got a nice pack of spawn from GourmetSeed, but I don't think I'll have the logs for it--unless I cut down some three inch oaks that are at the back of my compost heap; and clean straw is hard to come by in my county because most of it isn't zoned for agriculture.
Is there a simpler way to work with this spore? I have access to all manner of wood mulches, but I'm not sure they're either sanitary or safe of mushroom culture.
Kindly,
T

Do you still have the spawn, trudi? It may still be good if you've kept it refrigerated. I'm assuming it's one of the shelf fungi, specifically a pluerotus. Logs or chopped sterile straw are the only methods I know of, although I think I may have read about using sawdust for some species. Get in touch if you still have the spawn, if you aren't going to grow it, I have plenty of hardwoods here...maybe we could work something out.
