Here is a picture of Forcalquier, in the Alps of Haute Provence. Just found it on the net. This mediaval village is close to the Longo Mai commune where Tom and I gave a workshop. It is home of Henri Bardouin, a great distiller and maker of Pastis Henri Bardouin. Pastis is a liquor that you may know of, Ricard and Pernod are common all over the world, but frankly, they are the big mac version of it once you have tasted the elixir that this one is. It was such a beautiful village. I understand now why so many say that provence is the best place in the world to be... Just felt like teasing people a bit

It's lovely, Michel. No wonder you found new inspiration there! But Pernod...now that's just strange stuff....

That is beautiful but as a gardener I would worry about living on a rocky highland P.S. I hail from Victoria, BC... now my parents hog the gulf islands and I live in the beautiful frozen north. As consolation, we have great soil, right Michel?

Beautiful. I visited there a few years back and went to Les jardins du prieuré de Salagon, on the edge of town. It's a remarkable garden. The priory is now a centre for ethnobotanical research. If had known in advance I would have booked some time in their library which apparently houses some real gems of horticultural literature.

I saw Paul Cézanne everywhere when I was there. He is my favorite painter.

I lived for a year in a town where Cézanne spent a lot of time, Aix-en-Provence. I was always amazed to come across things like a small wall fountain designed by Renoir, a buddy of Cezanne's who visited him often, or when drivng along to look up to see Mont Sainte-Victoire, which appeared in a number of Cézanne's works. Ahhhhhh....ce pays me manque beaucoup.

It is truely an amazing part of the world, you get the sea, the mountains, the hills, the roc, the trees, the sage, rosemary and thyme, the architecture, the olive groves, the vineyards, the french women...still sexy and uttterly ''catwomanish'' and attractive at 60 ... Aaah!...I miss it too. I got lost in Aix-en-Provence. Should have gotten lost forever there... Ray, why don't we get together and rent an appartment there for another year? Did you visit the wonderful medieval village of Moustiers Sainte-Marie?
