I've had some seed on a wet paper towel in my kitchen window. Think they might sprout?

Go ahead and plant them, with plenty of heat. Iv'e grown it, but just for the lovely smell of the leaves, it didn't bloom for me.

I haven't a clue what the plant looks like. I'll have to check it out. But it needs a lot of heat you say? I'll start it inside then. Thanks for the encouraging word!

Ever seen any of the flowering gingers? Kinda like that, lot of upright "stems" made of interlocking leaves. As for whether they'll germinate that a bit trickier. if its white cardamom (the samlly white or green podded one, they're a chance. Some importers irradiate the stuff (which makes germination a no go) but some just dry it so they're may be a chance. Black Cardamon (the big haif brown pods that are used in some kind of Indain cooking) are on the other hand germinationally hopeless; they're smokes to give them that tarry aroma/flavor so they're already cooked by the time you get out hands on then. Ditton some of the related Amomums like hairy cardamon (used in some chinese medicine)

Wow, that's some cool data Blue! I'm not certain what I have. The seed itself is at least 3 or 4 years old and it is extremely fragrant. It was not in the pod. A friend bought it for me from Penzy's.
So, if it does nothing... I think I'm gonna try to track down some viable seed from somewhere.
I used it to make a spice cake using a recipe from America's Test Kitchen... ::groan:: that was SUCH a delicious cake... I'm gonna try making it as whoopie pies... Yuuuummmmmmmmmmm

If it was orginally from Penzy's then it's definitely white/green; that's the only one Penzey's sells decoriated (without the pod around it) Though to my suprise they do sell the black one as well. And If you DO bump into it, you'll never foret the fact, I wasn't kidding when I said the stuff smells like tar. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_cardamom

That would be awesome Kate, Thank you!
::laughing:: I dunno Michel... From your photos, you have an outstandingly manly physique... My cooking is not kind to such a muscular frame. My husband weighed 3 lbs. more this evening than he did this morning... Cardamon is key to exquisite spice cake, baklava, roasted chickens, Indian dishes without number... Then again, you could join the garden gang with their daily routine in the gardens... ;o)
Or did you mean Kate?

Yes its my work .I grew pitcher plants when we lived in Florida,we had a sunny conservatory and they thrived so well, also stag horns mounted on drift wood, but when we moved it was abroad to Spain so I found good homes for them all.
