ok, i'm an avid kiwi consumer and i know that in my area we can grow it without problem so i want to try it. but ...as usual i like the strange hardest possible way: is possible to grow kiwi via seeds? is possible to find commercial source for this seeds? i know exist different cv of kiwi with different flesh colors so i'm interested to try it have somebody some news? the last resource is to buy at least 3/4 plants in a local nursery of the usual green stuff....but..isnt enough for me...you know! ;D ;D every single info about strange cv or nice breeding work is welcome. thanks to all Emanuele

I have ordered the seeds before from Gardens North in Canada. I didn't have any germination on them, but maybe I just didn't pay enough attention to them. I am bad about that sometimes.

I grew half a dozen plants from seed from a golden kiwi I bought at the supermarket. They are very easy to grow from seed although the germination rate was low. That's okay though because kiwis have a lot of seeds. Mine have been growing in pots for about five years and haven't flowered yet so I don't know which are boys and which are girls. I'm going to repot them at the end of winter to see if that will stimulate flowering. I don't want to put them into the ground until I know their gender.

Emanuele, when I next see golden kiwis in the supermarket I'll get a few for seed for you. They're not a regular item though so I can't say when that might be.

Seeds of Golden Kiwi are available from few years at ebay. Like this: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130398041694Just sow them in small pot and put the pot in the fridge for 2-3 months (keep the potting mix moist). After the stratification keep warm until they germinate. It's that easy. I have few small plants.

Good to see other enthusiastic kiwi lovers. Unfortunately for me though... Once i tried Golden Kiwi fruit I never liked the green ones ever again. Now i can't get enough of the Golden ones!!
We have 2 hardy kiwi's growing near the fence in the shade. They are doing okay. We originally bought 4. 2 male and 2 female. Unfortunately 2 died the first year soon after planting, but they didnt ship very well to bigninb with. I dont know which genders survived, but i am hoping at least one of each.
I also planted some Golden Kiwi seeds in a pot last summer after refrigeration stratification. They germinated pretty well, although not until late in the summer. But, i planted next the fence near the cold hardy ones. It died unfortunately after our harsh winter last season. They supposedly only tolerate as low as 10 degrees, and we at least got down to 10 below zero.
...But.. Good news! The Golden Kiwi is back. It seems that although the top died, the roots survived, and surprised me a couple days ago with new growth!!
EDIT:
I just hope my Golden Kiwi plant breeds true. I hear that they sometimes fertilise the golden females with green males.....
