I grew this last year (or a very similar variety) and it was quite good. I have some vague memory that it had to be eaten relatively immature but that might be false. It made a lovely early year centre piece in the middle of my veg garden on a bean teepee.
Very nice picture!

Who says Edibles can't be Ornamental? That's gorgeous. Thanks for posting the link, Bunkie.

A lot of the really old strains of pea have these pretty two tone flowers (usually the older and closer to "wild" you get the stronger the color contrast is) much nicer that the "all white" flowers a lot of modern peas have (though sort of tied with some the far eastern/chinese strains whose flowers are bright scarlet) It isn't till you see older peas like this that you being to understand how Lathyrus odoratus could have gotten the name "sweet pea" (after all with the ruffly edges, a lot of modern sweet pea flowers look more like snapdragons than peas) but when you compare the flowers of an old pea (like this) to an old sweet pea (like say "Cupani") you being to see the similarity.

I'm growing several old varieties, encluding two which I like King Tut and Mummuy white, buth are shelling peas, King Tut has purple hulls while mummy white has clusters of snow white flowers at the top of the plant, I'm also growing one called purple passion which has purple flowers, purple pods and purple seeds I started these fairly late and they are just starting to take off, I got one called Spring Blush that I'm very interested in seeing if the flowers are colored also, the pods are supposed to have a pink blush to them. I know that there is a post on breeding peas, I like the way some of the older ones taste like, to bad so few are available, compaired to what was avalible years ago. George W.

George: this isn't a very good photo of the blossoms, but this is Spring Blush and the pods
