Does anyone have any time of the year that might work better? Oh, I should have put in the title- I am talking about the seed & plant swap. I'll do whatever the majority wants, if it would work better to change it we can.

We are still looking at September 18th for arrival and around the 23rd through the 25th for departure. Sooner if you throw shoes at us of course!

Those dates are still fine with me, but can change if we need to.

Original dates work for me...but I am amenable to changing them, especially to suite those who maybe coming a long way to attend!
Hhhmmm...shoe throwing as bait to attract out-of-state like minded gardening enthusiasts....might just have to try it!

LOL!!! Since we are planning on camping on the poor woman's door step (she's committed to letting me use her toilet!) I was kinda thinking that she might throw shoes at us to get us to leave... Though, she might become fond of my cooking... We butchered our first 2 chickens this past weekend and I made chopped liver for the first time. Butter, garlic, onions, fresh eggs... homemade toast tips... she may just decide to let us hang around indefinitely... ;o)

Is it still happening? I had a feeling that it wasn't and was getting a bit mopy. We might be in the middle of moving but I sure hope not. It would be great to have moved already I'll let you know.

I'm still planning on it indeed. The only reason I brought it up was because of Telsing's possible move. I am really looking for to meeting you! And everyone else that I haven't met already. I was hoping that Michel might be able to come too, maybe by Sept things will be better for him. I know that things are really crappy for a lot of people in a lot of places, so if it would be better to wait, I can. I am still planning on Sept 18th though, my BIL has built his new grill and we have used it a couple of times already. He thinks he may need to build it a little bigger-and it is already on its own trailer! He really loves to grill out and he makes a great pork loin. I really haven't planned anything special for this year, just wanted to get to meet everyone. But I am thinking that next year maybe we could coordinate with a guy here who has a retreat where they hold permaculture workshops with Keith Johnson of Bloomington, among other things. Lots of hippie wanna be's singing around the campfire in Birkenstocks, but could be some really good contacts for plant breeder types. Sorry, getting carried away here, and I am missing southpark. Anyway, still on for Sept unless majority would like some other time.

I doubt anybody around here will be throwing shoes to make you leave...not with your wonderful cooking and espresso making skills!!!
Chopped liver from home raised chickens...YUM!!!! I was just talking to my sister about getting some fresh chickens instead of those grocery store horrors. Might have to make the trip down to Alan's some time and stock up on fresh poultry and rabbits. Just have to get a second freezer as our current one is already stuffed!
Karen - Thanks again for offering to coordinate and host this. Let me know if I can help..cleanup duty or whatever since I am (relatively) local. That grill sounds wonderful...thinking of grilled veggies hhhmmm...
Your location idea for next year sounds great.

I'm glad to hear that garnetmoth! You are only about 3 hours away. Would be great to have you. I know that it isn't possible for many on the forum, but it will be fun to meet those who can come.

Was that last Sept at the southern something or other just down the road a bit from Berea? My husband and I went too! Took us a bit to find it though, the directions we had weren't all that clear, but we stopped at a little store and one of the guys there said he knew someone that sounded like he might have something like that, so we did find it. Then we went a few more miles down the road to Clifford Englands nut tree nursery in McKee. I'm sure we won't have too many people here, we are just from too many different places to be able to get many together at once, but we'll do what we can. I don't think it will be possible to find a 'best' time of the year to do it, our climates are just so different that what works for some won't for others. I am ready for frost here while some are just getting into tomato season. I really don't grow veggies anyway, I am more of an ornamental type gardener. They tolerate me here anyway though...

For some reason it seemed closer in my head than it does on a map. I have a hard time driving 3 hours, and it's a 9 hour drive from here. Looks like maybe Wayne Fitzgerald state park in Illinois is a convenient (roughly) halfway point, but I have no idea how crowded the 1st come 1st serve campground is in September. What would be great is if I could carpool with someone from this part of the country. Anybody?
