I was wondering what are everyones favorite softneck garlic?
I am looking for some that will grow well in zones 4b/5a.
What I want are recommendation for softneck varieties that will last the extra couple of months after hardnecks, to last the family until I can harvest the new years garlic. Basically I do not want to run out of homegrown garlic, because the few heads I have eaten fresh are great.
thanks,
Dean

Can't comment on your zone, we are zone 8, but California Early usually lasts until the next harvest and so does Rose de Lautrec from France. When that has all gone, the elephant garlics are still good, they last the longest. When they have been eaten, there is Babington Leek to dig up.

Simonetti does very well here. Also love Transylvania. A few of them had a bit of a hardneck but most soft. Both are great for braiding and huge bulbs. Survive well in zone 4.

I am going to a garlic festival this saturday in the Finger Lakes. I'll have to keep my eye out for Transylvania. You can always use garlic chives until you harvest.

Did you see any Transylvania today? I don't remember seeing any? But after all the garlic we ate today, I bet there's no Vampires at our house tonight nor at yours, lol
Home safe and sound...Hope you had a good drive home as well. You know what we forgot to take pics of? The garlic vendors. I've got pics of the vineyards, the vats and Seneca Lake. But no garlic, lol
