On Saturday, Blue and I met up at a garlic fest in the Finger Lakes. I never so so many grape vines in my life. lol The area is absolutely beautiful. We had a gorgeous day. The garlic fest was at Fox Run Vineyards, about 35 mi north of Watkin's Glen. We were surprised at how many people were there. The fest was really nice. Lots of garlic vendors. And more hot BBQ sauces than you can imagine. I did try a bit (about 3 grains) of the ground Bhut Jolokia pepper. It was still damn hot. lol. I got Czech Red and French Red garlics. Also a bag of shallots in mixed colors. I appreciate that Blue and Paintman crossed the border so we could hang out. Thanks, so much. I know you left extra early. We had a great time. It was a long day, but well worth it.

YW FP It was a Wonderful day for all! And still home before dark. We lucked out at Customs that's for certain. I was at a meeting last night where one of the Guest Speakers took 2 hours to get through Customs taking friends to Buffalo Airport. We were fortunate that it wasn't like that at 6:30 am last Saturday, lol You forgot to mention the Squash Oils. We had the opportunity to watch a demonstration (and sample) a culinary oil pressed from Butternut Squash. It's a local CNY company manufacturing this product along with oils from Delicata and Pumpkin. Uses range from salad dressing to a drizzle on ice cream. I'm really psyched about this product. I got me a gift pack and a T-Shirt at a very special price Next year, I'm taking it easy with the sample foods though. I'm still paying the price for combining raw garlic, 3 Hot Pepper Jelly and Tabasco Chris's variety of blends....

I'm also hoping you got a chance to try some of the local cheeses (unless you are vegan or lactose intolerant, in which case never mind) Lively Run's Cayuga Blue is from around there and it's probably my all time favortie cheese (I got addicted to the stuff when I went to Cornell, and have yet to find a raw goats milk blue that's finer.) Sidehill acres sheeps cheeses are also incredible, their Folie berge is the finest Basque style sheep wheel you'll find this side of the Pyrenees!

The Muranda Cheese Company was at the festival. I sampled a garlic dill and I believe Flowerpower liked the aged cheddar? Loved the logo on their shirts "We Cut the Cheese"

I did like the English Cheddar. It was quite sharp. I live near Cooperstown. There is alot of local cheese around. The Palatine Cheese Co is probably the biggest producer in the area. The squash oils tasted interesting. I especially liked the butternut. They made a salad with watermelon, arugula, & feta cheese with the butternut oil. It was very good. I also bought a garlic and opal basil vinegar. One vendor had garlic that was "pickled" in Riesling Wine. That was very tasty.
Blueadzuki, since you went to Cornell, you would know the area. It was close to Ithaca. We were on Seneca Lake right outside of Geneva.

FP, did you read the Edible Finger Lakes magazine that they were passing around? Lots of good info and resources in it for folks in the CNY regions including Rochester and Syracuse. I must check to see if there are Apples listed,

I sorta know it, It's actually a fair distance between Ithaca and Geneva. Fact Is I was only in Geneva one or two times and that was only at the Ag extension (which is a bit distance from Geneva itself) Unless you were driving youself (and I wasn't) it wasn't a trip you made lightly or frequently.
