OH! This is a dangerous question. I am still interested in acquiring some varieties of beans, peas, tomatoes and peppers, but also starting to run out of room in the garden. The goal is to save seed that is acclimatized to my location, cold tolerant and short season. Flavor and productivity are a must, so the plan is to keep on experimenting with several varieties each year.
Beans: yellow wax improved, cherokee trail of tears, tendergreen, royal burgundy, orca, henderson's bush lima, arikara yellow, thibodeau du Compte, coffee (this is all I know it as - apparently can be used as a coffee substitute), kentucky wonder pole, polar fava
Peas: green arrow, little marvel, homesteader, sugar snap
Summer & Winter Squash, Pumpkin black beauty, cocozelle, tromboncino, yellow crookneck, thelma sanders sweet potato, guatemalan blue, spagetti, lady godiva, sugar pie
Corn: golden bantam, black aztec, unknown small blue popcorn
Carrots: little fingers, nantes coreless, dragon
Cucumbers: lemon, early russian, boothby's blonde, straight 8, national pickling, satsuki madori
Melon/Watermelon: sweet siberian, cream of saskatchewan, heirloom icebox, collective farmwoman, noir des carmes
Lettuce: mostly undecided, haven't tried more than a few varieties in the past, but for sure crisp mint, grandpa admire's, speckled, marvel of 4 seasons, grand rapids
Beets: albino and burpees golden
Cabbage/Broccoli/Cauliflower/Brussels Sprouts/Rutabaga/Kale: this will be the first year I start my own seeds on these. Only the old fashioned types.
Tomatoes: have not decided yet, but winners in past years will see my garden again - jaunne flamme, blondkoptchen, matt's wild cherry, tennessee black...will try all black varieties I have next year
Peppers: still undecided, but for sure cayenne, tobasco, king of the north, ferer ozon.
Onions: walla walla, yellow globe, scotland leek, lincoln leek, lisbon bunching
Potatoes: caribe, and a red and yellow variety I can't remember the names of, plus from saved true seed.
Keep on building my strawberry, raspberry and asparagus beds. Plant saskatoons, a couple more apple trees, replant that one little sweet cherry (yes, prairie hardy!) that the hubby ran over with the tractor a few weeks ago.
Also arugula, spinach, amaranth & tah tsai. Proso millet, quinoa & broomcorn.
Tried okra and eggplant this year, okra never made it out of the gates, only got one eggplant, even with the GH. Will try again next summer.
Looking into trying a few different wheat varieties. Looking for hulless oats and barley to try. Would like to plant a silage pasture, really don't know what yet. May not be 2011, but I do know I want field peas & mangels in the mix.
Flowers: sunflowers, bachelors buttons, beesfriend, nasturtium, pansy/viola, calendula, more. Hopefully the perennials will start looking good this summer, there was really nothing here except a few lilies when we moved.
Herbs: trying to establish perennial herbs in z2 is a learning experience for me. Russian tarragon, purple carpet thyme should make it through, the sage, lemon balm, oregano, several basil varieties, lemon verbena, lavender will have to be replanted.
