Thanks for all of the wonderful birthday wishes.
Could not come at a better time since my birthday was rather blah due to the vet's visit on Monday. One horse has developed degenerative arhtritus in a leg injury and other horse has developed a tumor on her face (it will not metastasize but does need to be removed).
So it was not a very festive week. I actually cleaned house on my birthday....now that is just wrong.
Karen - I not only wished for rain but did my version of a rain dance: watered my garden! Normally that inspires a nice thunderstorm...but not this time. I will keep trying though...
Garnetmoth - Could you please post the recipe for that delicious cornbread that you bought to the swap. It literally is the best cornbread hat I have ever had. In fact I bought some home and my poor husband never even got one bite....
Thanks again for the birthday wishes. I did not even realize that this forum had a birthday section....so forgive me for not previously participating. I will in the future

Always pay it forward. grungysgarden.blogspot.com/ I am located about 10 miles. north of the Idaho panhandle and just below Kootenay Lake. The property lies in a small microclimate that gives me a zone 5/6 Canadian version or 6/7 US version. One acre of land at an elevation of 1770', just off the edge of a flood plain. Sandy loam soil, hot days and cool nights (55F).
keen101 (Biolumo / Andrew B.): Looking for Goldini Zucchini again. Thinking of setting up my own seed shop for OSSI varieties in the future.

wilscase: I'm a graduate student at Oregon State and have been working with populations segrgating for different color genes such as the B gene in Cucurbita. I'm curious if anyone has experience with crosses in Cucurbita maxima between grey blue types and orange?

wilscase: I have been backcrossing to the grey parent for 4 generations and have finally selfed the heterozygotes (for the Bmax gene) the populations have segregated for diffuse bicolor (pink/blue, orange green), blue green, blue, green, pink (salmon) and orange

wilscase: The genes involved are Bmax and bl. I have observed that Bmax is incompletely dominant to wild type (green). I have read that bl is incompletely recessive to Bl(wild type). I'm curious if anyone else has observed the behavior of Bmax in a grey/blue type

wilscase: It appears that bl and Bmax are interacting to produce different shades of salmon and pink.

wilscase: I'm also interested in any other color genetics, especially the relationships between B and L genes. In the right background these genes can dramatically increase Carotenoids (vitamin A)
