I can't answer about frost and the full moon, but we're having the same problems here with increasingly short and cool summers.
One of my maximas, bred in Montana, performed. Total fruit production was modest, but it didn't fail like many of my other squashes. It's "Bitterroot Buttercup". Bad name. Bred in the Bitterroot Valley.
Next year I will grow some more out, plus will work on early maximas.
I'll be spending much of the rest of the day, as much as I can spare from being the family chore-boy, getting ready for frost, which has not hit yet but could soon.

My first frost was 47 days ago.. I'm glad that my frost emergency is over. Good luck preparing for yours. By now everything that will be harvested from my garden has been and I am daydreaming about next year. I grew some very early maximas this year (About 75 days). They were very small producing about 1# fruits. Regards, Joseph

I could swear Canada is North of NY. Yet they are only getting frost while I was seeing an ice storm and snow squalls. It's just not right. lol We got about 2-3 inches of heavy wet snow. It's gone now, but the roads were really bad for a few hrs. Looked like March out there. If this is any indication of how the winter is going to go, it's gonna suck.

That's because neither Penny nor I live on top of a mountain. South of us or not, Zone Catskill is colder than the beaches of Lake Erie (most days) and closer to those clouds.

It's a small mountain. It turns out that parts of the Catskills do have their own zone. lol The state college conducted a study of the county. We are supposed to be Zone 5a. The towns in the higher elevations are not. We are 4b according to SUNY.
