A little early it seems for us, but a decent frost this morning. 90's last week, frost this week. Haven't had any significant rain for nearly 3 months now. Pretty crappy year in a lot of ways. But come about December, and we'll be itching to do it all over again.

I'll repeat that "request". Me too. I am trying to keep my Dill's Atlantic Giants alive as long as possible. The County weighoff isn't until later in the month. They are not HUGE, but 100+ lbs. That might be good enough for some prize money here. There were only 5 entrants last yr. I took 5th with a 52 lb Big Moon. Only 25 bucks, but we had lots of fun.

No frost here at chez-Telsing despite wide spread frost and lows that were supposed to be -1C??? I figure they either got that wrong or chez-Telsing is on a frost hill. My new digs will not be so frost sheltered though, I suspect. We'll see.

We made it all the way to last Saturday. That's a long fall here. Almost an extra month. Which I really needed. I had frost until June this yr. It still was a crappy season for me overall. I'm kinda glad the growing season is mostly over. Looking foward to a way better 2011.

Frost warning for WNY night before last...I thought I'd get it too if the wind blew NW over the lake, but saved again... Last year, we never had frost until the first week of November.

Well if Penny has snow... I guess it'll be soon now. Normally we get our first substantial snowfall around the end of November.

No snow, but we had our first (and second frost). Had to drape bean Genuine Cornfield in fleece/frostcloth to get a bit more maturity out of some of the pods in the hope of getting some seeds this year. Ditto some of the squashes.
The Australian Butter squash never grew bigger than a grapefruit and one of the two fruit rotted, ie never got pollinated. The other looks good but miniature.
Greens are still going under cloches and sheets of fleece.
A neighbour told me about a correlation between full moon and first frost twenty years ago and I have noticed this since. And most years it is true, our first frost correlates with the October full moon. Is there an explanation for this?
