Howdy. I have been around many garden forums and this one seems nice. I have been lurking for a few day's. I heard about his from some people on a another forum, Tomato Depot.
Looking forward to learning some more and hopefully teaching some. I'm no expert but I know my way around the garden. Right now it is pretty dull out there with only a few things still growing. But I do have some inside winter dwarf tomatoes to keep me busy.
I have been gardening for 15- 20 years. But it was just within the past 4 or so years I really started learning more and more about gardening.
Well see you around.
Dono

Hi Dono! Love to hear more about what you are doing - like the winter dwarf toms. Sounds intriguing...

Hello. My name is Jeff. I just got done with a very poor first year of gardening. My interests are predominantly with edible seeds, but I like most vegetables too. Some of my goals are: Growing enough pearl millet/other millets to feed a flock of chickens, Flax to make thread/linen and at some point clothes, Tobacco in large enough quantities to trade with, and enough staples(like wheat, oats, peas & beans, carrots, leafy greens, etc) to cut the grocery bill to as little as possible.

Hello Jeff. I figure that if you got seed into the ground for the first time that it was a great year!!!! Sorghum is an easy to grow and harvest crop that would be great for chickens. Seems to me to be easier than millet. I don't know what I would do with oats other than feed it to animals. Doesn't seem to be a food that a family can successfully process and eat. I dislike growing salad greens. So much labor for so little food. Cooking greens seem to be worth the effort though. I recommend long-keeping winter squash and potatoes as great staple crops that aren't on your list.

Just joined. Found you through other wise sites. Been gardening for a little, been worrying about my food for longer. Think I found you chasing a link to perennial kale. Hard to find stuff. Live in a typical suburban development. Rather big, 200 homes but with a large area that is perfect for a community garden that I am starting to organize. Built my first greenhouse last year and taking a serious attempt at winter gardening. Seems like a lot of friendly, bright people around here.

Wasn't sure where to pose this question - how do I post photos into threads? Clicking on the insert icon image just inserts code into the post, and attachments don't seem to work for me. there's nothing in the online help, and no 'site and computer' category... T

I usually use photobucket, but there are other ways. Holly posts some interesting pics in a completely different manner than I do. Maybe PM an admin?
