I have one friend who is getting into OP varieties. He said he would like to grow Cream of Saskatchewan because he likes the color. How is the taste? Are there other ''whites'' that would be better for my area? He is in the valley here, so zone 5a. Personally, I think the yellow ones look tastier.

Grew Cream of Saskatchewan once, back in about 2006. Didn't have a large harvest but as I recall, the taste was sweet.

I second Hristo . It's a really nice short season variety, probably the best flavored watermelon I can grow here in z3/4. I've been growing Tim Peter's version of it called Cream of Saskatoon

I've been growing Tim Peter's version of it called Cream of Saskatoon how in your opinion does Cream of Saskatchewan meaure up to the other white fleshed watermelons, Like CS white flesh, white wonder, Japanese Cream fleshed Sukia, and white sugar lump. for the recod I have tried to grow all four of these at one time or another although only the first two ever produced any fruit (I seem to recall them being juicy and referesing, but not all that sweet) the latter two never did anything for me (the first never got longer than about 1 food and I don't thik the second ever germinated at all, so I looking to see if anyone had better luck at them, and if so if they're worth another shot at some point.)

I appreciate the replies. I'll pick up the seed for him then. I have a terrible time with melons, but his farm is in a flood plain. He has much better soil than I do. And his season is at least 2 weeks longer than mine. Plus he has a small greenhouse for starts. Someone sent me seeds for "All Sweet'' watermelon (90 days). I'll give him some of those seeds also. I am going to try the All Sweet and Sugar Baby. I'll be happy if I get a tiny one.

Cream of Saskatchewan is a really good watermelon. I don't have a short season but it produces nicely here in a longer season and has great flavor. The watermelon that traditionally rates the best in a short season is Blacktail Mountain which has excellent flavor and is the standard by which short season melons are judged.
Other short season watermelons with very good reputations are Early Canada and Gold Flower although I'm not sure they're OP. I'm not a fan of Sweet Siberian which is another early OP that some people like.

I just went to the website and there's just a message saying they've been "cancelled". Anyway, I'll be growing this out this coming summer. PM me if you want seed. Well, I'm in a very melon challenged climate, so as far as flavor goes, I'm not a good judge. I get thrilled just to get anything ripe. I tried Yellow Doll years ago, but didn't get much of anything out of it. Cream of S is the only yellow/white I've grown that ripens well - and it tastes really good, INMHO

Arikara watermelons produce ungodly early, taste good (but tons of seeds for their size) and are about the size of a softball. They do not store well and are for eating within a week of picking.

Cream of Saskatchewan isn't bad. Sweet is the term that comes to mind. Grows fine here. I am not a huge fan of watermelon though. My hubby would be a better person to ask but it sounds like you already have lots of good responses.

Blacktail Mountain is over rated taste wise IMO. I much prefer Early Canada, an OP, thast also produces more here.
