Looks like another fairly unnecessary processed product, facilitating growing stuff divorced as much as possible from nature. Maybe useful if you want to keep a supply of sterile starter on hand in case you have iffy seeds to start and must coddle every one. I admit to being a tightwad and impatient with things that are unnaturally delicate.
