You have not lived-until you have owned a (Wolf Terrex-Automatic spade.
I have had one of these for over thirty years now- and you can still buy them, but unfortunately the price is now double what I paid for mine originally,
They were originally designed for commercial growers turning over their large tomato greenhouses soil after the season was over, and in reality a good digger can turn over nearly half an acre a day using one -they are effortless to use.
Each press down on the foot pedal -turns over a large spit of soil and chucks it well in front of the digging, in good ground you can whip out spits of soil 9 or 10 inches deep and six inches thick with each thrust of the pedal.
I was lucky enough to pick up a fork attachment to it as well as the super strong spade blade, so I can choose which form of digging to do. they are made of all steel through out, including the handle and shaft, the motorcycle like handlebars also have rubber end grips for more comfort,
After a full days digging with this amazing tool -I can guarantee you will be completely knackered ;D but you will have at least half an acre less to bother about for a month or two.

That looks great! But the prices, 109 or 99 pounds British depending on the metal of the blade? YIKES! Are they available in the states at all? I didn't see them here on cursory glance...

If you have them cut it up into 2kg pieces, they can ship it anywhere in the world ... simply reassemble on this side of the pond ...

If you're in the UK (can't speak for the States) try eBay. I've got to the point where I'm thinking of getting one because I have chronic fatigue syndrome, and the amount of digging I can do is strictly limited.
