We are growing this for the first time and hopeful that the spring will give us lots of good green shoots. This is an ancient French plant (possibly Belgian?) which is infertile and can only be propagated vegetatively. You just stick young shoots in the soil and they root, and you have another kale plant. It eventually makes a great big bush with lots and lots of green leafy sprouts, ideal for spring greens. A French friend gave us a few shoots last summer and it is growing wonderfully well at a time when there's little left in the garden for springtime.

I finally got a hold of it last year. It's a beautiful plant and great if you like the taste of kale. Definitely not a subtle flavour.
