Are we still going semi-veg together (Idig thread)? Let me know when and I'll post some good salad and other raw recipes. I'd like to drop some of my weight before we open the pool in May. Maybe some others from here will join us?

Yeah, I'm game! By all means, let's start discussing the foods we intend to eat. What are your thoughts on restrictions? I hope others here will join us, too!

I'm all about raw foods. That way, I can't batter and deep fry everything.
I say, lets restrict grains and fats and try to keep our diets 70% raw fruits and vegetables, at least.
Let's have cheat days and cherish them.

Might I mention that you might want to incl. at least some good fats like extra virgin olive oil, only because your body actually needs these types. Hope it works well for you. I might join in on the raw foods at least for the most part.

Good fats, and some carbs or your electrolytes will get all messed up. If your electrolytes get messed up so does your heart...

Canna and Kimi- I couldn't live without some fats/carbs. I love avocados, olive oil, nuts, etc. Hopefully, I can keep it down to the healthier carbs like bulgur wheat and brown rice, rather than white bread and tortillas. Thanks for your concern, though. Lots of people go on these extreme diets and have horrible problems from them.

house - it sounds like we're pretty much on the same page.
The closest diet I know of to what we've been talking about is the paleolithic diet. Ours will lean even more towards vegetarian, though.

So many questions ? Hmmmm ? How to make deer stew without the meat ? Chili without meat ? whaaaa? Pickled pigs feet without the feet ? (not that i would eat'em anyways but ?) I like meat just in moderation for the flavoring ! Most people like to have veggies for the side dish making the meat portion the main deal my family and i do the opposite our veggies come first then comes the meat (no tofu YUK!!!)

I personally prefer a happy, healthy medium of both. In fact I LOVE a dark green salad with a nice medium well steak sliced up on top. Sometimes my body craves the iron that comes from red meat. But then I also go through days where I don't eat any meat at all.

When my eldest daughter was young we tried to control her hyperactive behavior with a diet that restricted all sugars, pesticides, additives, etc. We ended up as organic vegetarians, which was kind of tough in mid-state Wisconsin during the late 70's and during the 80's.
To make this kind of diet work you will need to add processed soy to your diet. Tofu and tempeh are really good for you, and properly prepared are very yummy.
The 70% raw will be very good for you but some marinated crispy fried tofu, really helps to keep the meat cravings under control.

You can grill tempeh, too - we make veggie burger kind of sandwiches out of it sometimes.
