I took a hot yoga class the other night for the first time and omg it reminded me so much of the days back in the day when I had a weekly sauna ritual it was so invigorating and uplifting to take care of myself like this.. ....the problem I find with hot yoga is it is pretty disgusting to sit in a room with a large number of people just profusely sweating when you have vaporizers going (all I could think was we would all die of some lung or fungal infection (yes I am a germphobe but I am also a nurse and know people get this shit!)
so I want to get hot sweaty stretch and meditate..and do it at home where I can control the bacterial count ...cedar is what I am thinking ..a nice cedar ..what type would be best for a sauna?
we have had and were going to get another cedar wood burning hot tub that was so lovely but cranked out so much shit into the air I can not do that and feel good about myself
and the amount of water I would use even though I sent it into the garden is still insane ...a sauna is more green I think
so my brain is full of guilt about this world and I want to be a selfish hedonist at the same time ...
with all that blabber what I am trying to ask for is any info or valuable ideas floor to cover...
for building a nice home grown sanitary non lethal sauna I have a budget but it is not huge ..I look at this as a valid medical investment in my garden longevity
to start we are going for SLIP FREE non ass busting faux grout tile floor on the already placed nasty patio that needs a good cleaning and resurfacing before the grout goes down..I do a nice sturdy faux tile maybe you guys know of it mine was trial and error I figured it was a good idea so I just kept going ...grout and strapping tape some concrete coloring (I inherited a lot for free) and you can make a brick ..stone or just have fun with it ..I would like to try to embed some bags of pebbles into the flooring if anyone knows can I just dump them on grout? or is there a process?
so that will be the floor ..drain in the middle and a pull chain shower that is like one of those pizza shower heads and feels like rain? they were all the rage a few years ago but pulled peoples plumbing out of the wall they were so heavy ..or so a plumber told me.. they kept him busy!
so I am going to keep my eyes out for a second hand one at the ReSource store
so that will be the floor and shower..we also have the option of sticking an old claw foot tub out there and making a cold soak or a medium soak so maybe that would work out too
the sauna is of course the hard part
spoiled hedonesta would like the following
four people should fit and be able to recline and stretch
I do not want to be electrocuted or asphyxiated
I would like to have an upper and lower bench and the sauna should be one you can toss water and herbs
my husband is very very good at metal work and welding he is also good at plumbing anything gas/water whatever
what is your favorite heat source?
has anyone built a sauna? do you like to sauna? do you have any wonderful alternatives for it (I have to admit to taking hot showers and then running out into the cold to get my fix)
thanks in advance
and please excuse all typos I swear it is the awful need for bifocals I can not see clearly what I type!
