I am looking for tools that will save me time and back/knee pain in my large garden.
Any recommendations for or against this tool, or a better alternative would be highly recommended. The Glaser alternative is out of my budget, but it would be nice to know how it compares.
And...I have read reviews saying that a low wheel tool is better, any comments on this?

We had 2 Earthway 1001 B precision garden seeders and we lost both of them in the shed fire. We will be replacing both of them as soon as we can!

Wheel hoes are the way to go for a big garden. Not suited for fine tuning in between plants, but for long rows they can't be beat. I have two Planet Jrs- and an assortment of attachments. A hiller, some cultivator prongs, the harrows, and the weed sweeps. I love 'em. Real time & effort savers when you have a big garden. The weed sweeps work really well on just emerging weeds, you just zip along. Even mid sized weeds can be handled if you're running late. But! I have no rocks, just very fine sandy loam. If you have really rocky soil, using a wheel hoe might have some issues. Especially with the cultivator prongs. Just sayin'. I got the PJs off Craig's List and got a really good deal for the two. But I had to battle it out with the collectors on eBay for some of the attachments I needed. Thankfully there are a number of places that sell brand new replicas made in USA now. One place (that carries other good quality tools that I can't praise enough, really awesome hoes) is the www.easydigging.com site. If his version of the PJ is as good as his hoes, it'll be worth every penny & will last forever. Low wheeled is better than high- better leverage. When pushing it, you use your shoulders & arms (and legs to some degree) more than your back. But they are on the heavy side when you need to lift it. They're all metal & solid wood. But if you're going to just roll it to a corner it should be ok. I hang mine because they're awkward & take up alotta room in my cluttered garage.

Oh good, that is just the sort of info I was hoping for. I'm certain that Lee Valley sells the exact same one as on that website you reference. Even though with all the attachments it's twice the price as the Earthway, I think it's the way to go, both because of the smaller wheel, and because of the reviews I have read regarding the overall quality.
Thank you!

We planted our peas the other day. I soaked them all overnight before planting. The Early Alaska are a small pea and did just fine. The Laxton's Progress and Wandos are larger peas and got stuck and were, in general, a pain in the brain stem.
I'll have to look up the Planet Jrs... that sounds kinda interesting!

I have two high wheel hanging in the garage that I don't use for weeding, because I prefer to use a stirrup hoe for weeding. I looked at the websites for both the Planet Jr and Earthway and both sites had stirrup hoe attachments. Got me thinking! Maybe I can have the best of both. Thanks for the thread.
