Welcome Michele. Good to have you here. Any seed saving questions, just ask.
One of the recent posts was about Italian landrace beans. There is a lot of interest in Italian heritage/heirloom vegetables here.
I read it. I talked with Cortona about this and I'm looking for beans for him. Really I don't know well south italian varieties of beans. I thought that in Sicily there are too dry to grow Phaseolus vulgaris. Cultivars that I grow are all originating from Cisalpine or Tuscany. Most of those are exclusive of Civiltà Contadina and associated groups.
How is Civiltà Contadina organised?
Civiltà Contadina is a volunteers' no-profit organisation. It has a board of directors that makes general decisions and organizes national events. The members of the board of direction are divided by sectors: chairmanship, office, editorial department, external contacts, culture and education, safeguard of biodiversity.
The association is structured in local groups that work locally with great autonomy. Today there are not local groups in all the italian Republic, but only in certain regions. Civiltà Contadina's members are instead present throughout the state.
Preservation of italian biodiversity is specialized about old vegetable and cereal varieties, but also about old fruits and the ancien race Ancona chicken.
After years of messy developement, in the last three years we are restructuring the association. Soon we will have a complete list of varieties that we store, a cold storage for backup and a system for management of trade among members.
By any chance, would you know where to find some seeds of the sweet pepper CORNO DI BUE DI CARMAGNOLA???
I am dying to put my hands on it...and would give you the moon for it...
Michel
