Hello everybody, my name is Michele. I am a seed saver from Lombardy, in norhern italy. I I collaborate with an italian seed savers' association, Civiltà Contadina. We collect and reproduce old varieties of vegetables and fruits in all countries of the Italian Republic.
I like also unusual vegetable varieties, specially tomatoes, zucchini and okra.
I'd like to learn how to select new vegetable varieties and I got here.
I hope to be in the right place!

Wait a minute the "right" place? Couldn't we also be the "left" place depending on whether she's facing north or south? Of course this assumes we are a "place" to begin with?

Hello everybody thanks for greetings! Wait a minute the "right" place?"right" in sense "correct", "accurate". Place in sense of this site! My garden is south-placed in zone USDA 8A. I personally am dying to see what actual seeds she has got to exchange of unusual Italian Tomatoes etc, In italy there are a lot of climates, then many varieties of tomatoes, many are very tasty but only few of them are very unusual. I can help you find them. We'll talk. The site of Civiltà Contadina is www.civiltacontadina.it

Wait a minute the "right" place?"right" in sense "correct", "accurate". Place in sense of this site! My garden is south-placed in zone USDA 8A. ACK! You've caught me! I'm in a zone 8 as well, on the Atlantic coast. As we go into our planting season, I would be interested to know what kind of insect challenges you face and how you surmount them. We have several that are most devastating, potato beetles, stink bugs, and squash bugs. For the last few years, I've handpicked all of them. However, we are growing more and more and need to get more from what we grow. Squashes and melons are the biggest issue this year as we are getting zero harvest. A friend has given me some dried tobacco leaves to sprinkle on the soil around these plants. I am also considering using foil collars around the stems at the soil level. Diamatatious (spelling?) earth did not prove itself particularly efficacious last season.

Welcome Michele. Good to have you here. Any seed saving questions, just ask.
How is Civiltà Contadina organised?
One of the recent posts was about Italian landrace beans. There is a lot of interest in Italian heritage/heirloom vegetables here.

Welcome, new friend, and if there is anything you need, just say so, we love to share around here. And also create new cultivars and have friends try them.
In need of new ''not on the market yet'' tomatoes, like the blue one, just send a pm and they are going your way...
By any chance, would you know where to find some seeds of the sweet pepper CORNO DI BUE DI CARMAGNOLA??? I am dying to put my hands on it...and would give you the moon for it...
Michel
