Ciao all-
Wow, took me forever to find you guys eh?
A lot of you know me already. I live right in the heart of Toronto, a concrete jungle of ipods and mobile phones and in the summer, I get to hear everyone's favourite music as they drive by with the windows rolled down, lol. So what do I do? Plant my own little Garden of Eden. I'm a full-time sustainable gardener, canner, cook, and homemaker. My husband Duane, our 5 cats, 2 tenants and their dog, plus Duane's son who we don't see enough make up our little family here.
I grow a mix of mostly annual flowers, fruits, and vegetables. Each year I try to take on something new - this year it's trying to grow a few perennial flowers from seed. I have a lot to learn in this area. I like to take on a few plants I have no business trying to grow in 5a/b like Okra, Asparagus Peas, most Melons, Yardlong Beans, things like that.
We have about 700 sq ft of growing space if you include the concrete driveway where Duane grows his peppers in containers. I started out growing things I grew up with in my family's California Italian garden like tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, beans, but I've branched out (punny yes, but also literally) into just about anything now. My love of corn and winter squash make our growing space seem small now and each year the lawn gets less and less. Personally, I could do without it completely, but we don't own this house, so I consider myself very blessed that the owners are really accommodating with how much we've changed the landscape of the garden to include many raised beds.
Good to be here.
