I am a full time micro farmer and I like gardening and political forums.
I own a 9 acre farm in SW Ohio ha my husband and I bought in the fall of 2005. Before that we rented a farm and did market gardening here for 12 years or so. We grow organically and were certified organic by OEFFA for 8 years until the USDA took over.
We grow a huge diversity of produce, some years over 135 different crops. I love heirlooms but grow a lot of hybrids. I hope to be growing 100% heirlooms by 2010. I also love seed saving and have been doing so for about 14 years. For a while we grew out for Abundant Life Seed Foundation.
We are big time into season extension using unheated hoophouses and row covers. We can often grow 11 months out of 12. I have given numerous workshops on growing out of season for OSU, OEFFA and other groups.
I love to cook and used to do so professionally for everything from gourmet restaurants to fraternity houses.
I also used to be a racehorse groom and show horse trainer and an archaeologist.
Now I farm and I am dedicated to reshaping local food sheds (at least the one I am in). I have helped start 2 farmers markets in the past 12 years and am the market manager for one of them.
I like rocks, digital photography, eclectic music, I have 3 dogs and 2 cats, I went to art skool for a year because my brother and father are both professional artists. Than I dropped out and when I went back got a degree in anthropology which eventually lead me to organic farming in a very circuitous fashion. I used to ride, rain and show dressage horses and 3-day eventers, I love lefty poliics and arguing with the christian taliban.
