It's not quite as simple as that sounds; sodium is a poison, as is chlorine. I think the mercury used in vaccines is a form not affecting the body the same as the pure element, just as the sodium and chlorine we typically injest are not in the form of the pure elements. Then there are questions of relative risk: I think the risk of mercury compounds in vaccines is seen as much less than the risk of the diseases the vaccines prevent. I think sometimes the reputation of something like mercury in vaccines can lead people to actions that promote greater danger to themselves and others. Sort of like the idea that ( all ) bacteria are bad, (when in fact we cannot live without certain bacteria ), leading to willy-nilly use of antibiotics in dishsoap, shampoo, etc, until woopsie! look at all the antibiotic-resistant bacteria!
In other words, too much oxygen will kill you, but just try to get along without it.
Vaccines without preservatives can also be dangerous; I think the mercury compound thimerosol is used as a preservative in many vaccines.

Just like the resistant weeds growing in my garden thanks to the over use of round up. There is only one way to get rid of them, shoot 'em with a rifle! uh... no... pull them by hand... sorry, weeds and certain bugs just make me crazy!

"Shoot "em with a rifle!"? That is so wrong! Use a shotgun; kill and mulch in one shot.

I'm convinced that it's dangerous to fear OR trust either pharmaceuticals or natural remedies to the point of fanaticism. In the case of a parent refusing to use antibiotics for a child with strep or staph, or trialing herbal cures while reserving antibiotics as a last resort, put the child at great risk of losing life or limb when the risks posed by the antibiotics are essentially nonexistant. There is potential for allergic reactions to any antibiotic, and the possibility of some damage to the liver, rarely of much consequence. Staph these days tends to be of the very virulent MRSA (I hope I've got that acronym right) type which, untreated, can quickly lead to the need for amputation or cause heart failure, strep can cause kidney failure and death. I'm sure there are other severe consequences, and immediate treatment is typically completely effective. I'm sure there is much more to all this than what I've covered. Abuse and misuse of antibiotics in medical practice is widespread in the US medical system though, practically anyone with a common cold or "sniffles" from allergies, etc. are often given antibiotics even though doctors are well aware that bacteria is not the cause. They can be useful for secondary infections, but this practice contributes to the growing problem of antibiotic resistent strains of infectious bacteria. I don't know anything about the EU issues with herbal and natural health products, but the US has regulations on these, for one, prohibiting health claims on products that don't have specific, conclusive evidence of their effectiveness. Herbs and compounds generally aren't prohibited for sale, so it's up to the consumer to know what uses they have or are reputed to have. As far as I know, the amount of active chemical (such as salysilic acid, if I've spelled that right) is anyone's guess in the products is not specified in the labeling unless the products are extracts. That gets into a whole other conversation, concerning the effects of the herb or natural product as it relates to total contents of this or that chemical, and whether a pure extract of one isolated component is responsible for the desired effect, or whether it's the synergistic effect of the various constituents that makes it useful, etc, etc. Certainly a great many herbal or natural products have a multitude of benefits, and I believe that generally the fresher the better, cultivated or wildharvested likely have benefits that just can't be reproduced in isolated compounds in a laboratory setting. As for the issue of vaccination, many potentially disastrously contagious diseases have been virtually eliminated since the discovery of vaccines, and they play an extremely important role in public health. The problems are that there ARE risks involved. Firstly, the number of vaccines has grown exponentially, and big pharma has lobbied effectively to have them become required almost universally. Not all of them are as critically important as others, and few studies have been done to indicate the effects of the many multiples administered at once or over a given time. Second, while it's commonly stated that thymerosol isn't used in the US supplies, there are times when vaccines are imported which contain it, and, as I understand it, when vaccines are intended for longer term storage or are overproduced and stockpiled, thymerosol is still used here as a preservative. Mercury is dangerous in any form, and some forms are some of the most lethal substances in existence. While the link to autism (and other health complications) is highly refuted, there is still a substantial belief by numerous researchers that there is a link, as well as links to the combinations of large numbers of vaccine, especially in the early formative period of childhood development. There are immense profits to be made through sales and government susidization of vaccines. Look into the effort to require vaccination of young girls (and also boys) for Human Papiloma Virus and the numerous reports of adverse reactions to the vaccine.

give me pine needles and pitch, fresh black walnuts, cayenne pepper, plantain and/or charcoal, sweet annie, comfrey, a few towels and an old wool blanket. combine that with diet management, and I can cure you of whatever ails you. Including all those "incurables" because there is no such thing as an incurable disease. Used properly it works far faster and more effective than any drug ever did. I had a great grandmother who was treating flu cases during the 1918 epidemic, she never lost a case. I heard all she was using was the towels and wool blanket, along with a kettle of hot water. Yah, I've had the training. Was taught by some of the most successful natural healing practitioners in the world. Lived with one of them for awhile. The problem 150 years ago was; Nobody knew how to use those things, they were dieing while the cure was in their closet or under their feet when they walked outside. This thing about outlawing herbs; it's nothing but a competition thing, the drug companies and drug pushing med system wants a monopoly on pulling money out of sick peoples pockets. The herbs and natural treatments are a threat to their fat pocket book. But they can't touch my source of natural treatments, because it grows all around me, is in my closet, I can walk outside and grab what I need to cure cancer, aids, hypoglycemia, name it and it will give way to the proper use of natural treatments, with no money involved, and they don't like that, don't want people to find out how good it is. And all of those treatments are 100% non toxic, however a few are so powerful they need to be used carefully in small amounts, or they will cause a feeling of illness temporarily as they loosen up toxins in the body too fast.
I dive in with gusto because I know how good it is, have seen cancer vanish like magic, I have also seen it kill people when they refused to do what was needed to get rid of it. Some people would rather die than quit eating that beloved steak dinner. Not long ago a cancer surgeon in a large USA hospital started curing cancer by natural means instead of just cutting it out, he started gaining a local reputation for his success, but soon he had a visitor, he was threatened with loss of his doctors license if he didn't stop using "unapproved treatments" But since he was more interested in making people well than keeping his job, he retired early and moved a long ways across country to an isolated location and started taking patients in his home.
One or the natural healers I learned from was running a sanitarium in CA it the 50's, but got driven out of business by big med and their helpers. (because he was curing people who'd been sent home to die by the establishment, there was no disease that he couldn't cure, and they were mad as hornets at him) He then built a sailboat, crossed the pacific and started visiting south sea islands treating sick people and accidents of all sorts, whatever he ran into, using whatever was around him for treatment. One time a man was brought to him with a scorpion sting (bad as a rattle snake bite in the tropics) the man was swollen up and close to gone, he just immersed the man in clay stirred up on a stream bank, the clay pulled the toxin out of his body. People who don't know this stuff are very skeptical of it, I know it well and therefore have absolutely no use for the medical system except for severe accident repair. Even all this joint replacement surgery business I keep hearing about, that's entirely a nutritional issue. We are far more malnourished than we dream we are. That would be fixable with a high brix diet and eating it uncooked, but it's taken many years of malnourishment to get us so run down so bad, it can't be fixed in a few days. Joint replacement is the quick fix while ignoring the cause.

In the U.S., we are an over medicated society!
MOST Dr.s don't try to find the problem & correct it they just write a script to take care of the symptoms!

I'm not much in to herbal medicines, but I have seen and still see very similar statements and every few months there is the next new panacea based on 5/10/20 miraculous herbs. Sorry, but frankly I'm more than sceptic. So can you prove in practice your statements? Most modern drugs are based on compounds found in plants. Every pharma corp. researches thousands plant (and animal) species. The problem is their findings are secret, so no one else can benefit them, until they find a way to artificially synthesize the active compound(s) and patent the drug.

I feel like I'm wasting what precious little money I have buying the processed pharma drugs when I have the raw materials out my front door.
I don't like buying bread, soap, clothes of the rack, and myriad other "things" for the very same reason. I make what I can and give up what I don't need (like cable TV, computer/video games, etc). I'm certainly not suffering in any way. But I do feel that those with a real need can make better use of such luxuries even without my participation of the consumer process.
My idea of Utopia does not include pharma. Toilets and toilet paper on the other hand... well... I support those industries whole... umm... heartedly!
