Been growing pineberry (strawberries) and have the first ones almost ready! They have lovely white flesh and red seeds. Very curious now about the taste! Hope i can attach a picture this way.... Attachments:

I wouldn't have thought of such a thing! It's certainly striking in appearance. Do report on the flavor, please.

Where did you get plants? Do they grow true from seeds? I have never seen them for sale here in Denmark.

Yours are waaay ahead of mine.
Dane, probably some fraction come true from seed.
There's a legendary story about their origins but they're just color-reverse domesticated strawberries. A specialty of certain Dutch growers. Someone imported some here and I've gotten a few from several channels. However there are restrictions on sending them to my state so I can only get them off-season, and there was only one variety left when I ordered. Someone gave me another one, unknown variety.

Actually, the "ornamental" strawberries my sister planted around one of my stump gardens (the ones with the pink flowers) look a lot like that when they are sort of half ripe (the white part on those reddens up eventually though).

Anybody know how pineberry phytonutrients compare with strawberries?

I have been growing pineberries since the end of May this year, unfortunately I was unaware of the fact that the season for fruiting runs for 5 weeks from early April, so I missed getting any fruit. Instead, I have been growing the runners in anticipation of next years crop and been blogging at www.gardensmallholding.co.uk/blogs/tags/Pineberry/Here's hoping that it all works out!
