Hello to everyone! A nice place to meet eager gardeners and share information. A member of this forum - was that you, keen101? - sent me a link and here I am. Like probably everyone on this forum, I enjoy growing plants, especially from seeds. Watermelons and melons have been my passion for more than a decade by now and though Estonia's climate in general is not very suitable for them, some varieties do pretty well here nevertheless - Alaska melon and Blacktail Mountain watermelon for example. I also like tomatoes very much (having planted about 60 varieties this year) and grow eagerly (mainly table) grapes. To my own surprise, I also started with TPS this year: having occasionally found a site that offered the seeds, I just couldn't not to order some packets. Now, I have about 300 seedlings growing in the field (some are in bloom already). I am a gardener both by heart and by profession, earning for living by selling young fruit trees and fruits as well as writing articles for gardening journals (in Estonian, naturally). In earlier years, I also have taught biology, chemistry, physics and maths at school and occasionally I do this up to now.

Hey, Great to finally see you here on the forum! Yeah, the melon breeding sounds fantastic. I will have to visit your website again and look through all the varieties you have tested over there in Estonia. Sounds like you might have a lot of other interesting projects and knowledge you can also provide. I can't wait to hear about it.
Anyway, welcome to the forum! Feel free to make your self at home.

Hi, Why not post the link so we can all see your melons!
I used to have a great friend in Estonia. Alas she was killed in a car accident in CZ. She visited me often here and brought me beautiful textiles. Estonia is a beautiful place. Welcome to Homegrown. There's many wonderful and knowledgeable folks here.
I'd like to know your favorite melons. I also grow Blacktail Mountain. I even bought chickens from Glenn. Even the chickens are great!

The link is here - e-aiand.com/kirjutisi.html. As the text is in Estonian, you most likely should use some translating tool (Google Translator fe). The result will be pretty funny - but at least partly understandable. Harri.

Welcome. This is the first time I've heard of grafting melons onto squash rootstock - fantastic! Looking forward to more posts from you.

Have you ever grown ficifolia? I'd love to hear your experience with this particular melon.
We suffer severe issues with vine borers and squash bugs here. =o( Anything instructive you could pass on about these animals would be appreciated.
