Ignore the educator when she refers to labor pains as 'discomfort'. She is lying. Just don't tell your wife I said that. When we went to class, the teacher had never even had a baby. That should be the first qualification. I worked in OB for a while. Just remember that what she says to you during labor, she doesn't really mean. I have seen some meek and mild seeming women become raving psychos while bringing their little bundle of joy into this world. Make sure she trims her fingernails before labor starts, and you should be fine. Just kidding of course. Have fun in class.

Deleted my post cause it was unsolicited advise and comments.
Congrats, and enjoy the quiet you have together now. I hope you get to feel lots of the kicking. It's something pretty amazing, having a little person inside you, and watching he/she move.

Congrats to you and the wife. Babies and children are wonderful, as are their parents. I value every moment that I get with my 3 nieces.

My advice ... remain calm ... IN THE WAITING ROOM. They'll come and get you when it's daddy time.

I hope they didn't freak you out too bad. I know it seems silly in class, but if she can concentrate on the breathing when the time comes, it can help. The women who can stay focused seem to have a better time of it. They should show video of Amish women giving birth. One night a young women came in to give birth to her first baby, not really sure why she came to the hospital. They don't usually unless they are having twins and the doctor insisted on it. But anyway, she came in, gave birth, did not make a sound, not one peep. Not more than an hour later, she gets up, they go home. The Amish around here like to have babies, because it is an automatic 3 month vacation. The other ladies take care of the house and children while they recover. I couldn't believe it, but that is what the Mennonite doctor said when we were feeling sorry for the poor girl. Do you have family around to help out? I think that makes a big difference.

the actual birthing doesn't freak me out at all. I'm totally cool with it. I appreciate all the advice everyone. What scared me the most about the videos were the scary people and their grooming
