So this year I have a lot of this going on. I have double tomatoes, squash, cukes, corn, and onions. I even have some triples going on. Can someone tell me what causes this? And what about the seed? saveable? Will create something that will double your eating pleasure and triple your fun? Should be rogued? Are these fused blossoms? Can some one tell me the scientific name for this phenomena? Attachments:

holly, it's been an exceptional year for fused blossoms in our toms during the very beginning of the season, at least i thought it was 'fused blossoms'. also, everywhere i looked on ALL varieties, there were these HUGE blossoms all over the plants. the fruit has been exceptionally large this year, too. we also have doubled winter squash fruits that i haven't taken pics of, lots of them. and remember my two double radishes...

The thing with the onions is a different phenomenon than the situation with the fruits. I think with the fruits you are looking at some abnormal fusing of flowers. I'm pretty sure in tomatoes it is not genetic but occurs due to adverse/unususal conditions right around the time the flowers were primordia in the meristem, usually it is due to a stress on the plant like a cold snap or something. Not sure if that is what causes squash to fuse like that. I've seen it in Delicatas a lot.

The onions just got too dry too many times, or one time for too long.

On of the numerous senna plants in my yard, I noticed yesterday, has an interesting fusion of it's own. On one leaf the two terminal leaflets are fused (senna is an evenly pinnate plant) to form a single leaf that is cup shaped. In fact it reminds me a lot of the ornamnetal ficus variery called Krishna's Cup (though that of course is a lot bigger). petiole on that leaflet is a lot longer as well so it sticks up above the plane of the rest of the leaf.
