Looking for Persimmon scions for zone 5, Central Illinois. Mainly looking for virginiana but would try some of the Asian cultivars too. Would be willing to purchase ot trade.

I think if you want Persimmon with larger fruits than virginiana, then your best bet would be one of the kaki X virginiana hybrids. Probably there are kaki's which can survive your winters, but is your frost free season long enough, so they can ripen? I know one at least 40-50+ year old kaki tree in my town, which indicates that it for sure has survived temps around and bellow -22C, but our frost free period is between 170 and 200 days. Persimmons are not very popular here. In the past there were only 3 varieties offered: Costata (Kostata), Hiro Tanenashi and Hiakume (Hiyakume), so it could be one of them.

I will be using virginiana seedling rootstock from the local area. We have between 160 to 180 frost free days. It can get to -20F here but has not been that cold for too long in the past few years. I would like to find mainly virginiana cultivars but would try Kaki x virginiana too.
