Would anybody happen to have any Jala Valley Landrace seeds? I couldn't care less about the height; I want to use them for breeding long ear genes into my corn composite. (Currently my 12 row thin dent is locked at 10 inches, and I've heard Jala regularly gets to 15 inches.) A reasonably priced source would be fine too (besides the USDA).

Thanks, Hristo, but I can't stomach $2.50 per seed. I don't want Jala THAT badly. And about the smut, could the seed have been infected by chance? Also, where did you get your seed from?

If you aren't stuck on that landrace, there are other dent corns with long ears.

I wanted to use Jala (or any long-eared Latin American corn), because of the exotic genes. I mentioned before about breeding a composite, and as things stand now, I have 25% Northern USA, 25% Andean, and 25% Northern Mexican stock. I already have 3 Southern Mexican varieties, and Jala is the last one I want to add. I could live without it, but I'd like to have it for a broader genepool.

Corn smut is present in my garden, but no other variety have been so severely affected. I do not know, this could be just a coincidence. I got the seeds in a trade with a member of the above mentioned board. Actually I did not asked for them, he just send the along with the other seeds.
You can post at the board, there is a good chance you can get some seeds. Also you can email (check your PM) the guy which grew the tall corn shown at the second site. Obviously these seeds are of his tallest plant, but since it's not the height of the plant you are interested of, I'm sure he has and other seeds. At least you can ask him how big are the ears, so you can decide if it's worth using it in your breeding.
